The Willowmaid Tree
The willowmaid tree is the primary source of willowsap, and most people associate it with the white-barked willow trees that are common to bogs and marshes. However, the trees that appear above the surface only tell part of the story. The willowmaid is actually a massive and complicated organism comprised of many, many trees. The willowmaid tree in Willowmaid Marsh is perhaps the largest specimen, made up of thousands of trees spanning hundreds of miles. Each willowmaid has a single heart tree, which takes the form of a silver-barked weeping willow. This heart tree houses the vitality, power and rudimentary intelligence of the organism. The heart tree of the willowmaid of Willowmaid Marsh is called the Willow Queen by the people of Willowmaid.
